  • EUPHIX aims and objectives

The aim of the EUPHIX project is to develop a prototype for a sustainable, web-based health information system for the European Union, providing health professionals, policy makers and other interested users with relevant, structured information on issues of public health across the EU and within its 27 Member States.

The objectives of the project are:

    • to deliver a functional web application
    • to develop structured information on selected topics for that application
    • to establish a network of organisations and experts that will maintain the application sustainably.

For more detail have a look at project deliverables. To see the current status of the web application see the EUPHIX website.

For examples of similar national-based web applications see Dutch Public Health Compass or view the Compass presentation (pdf).

    Project deliverables

    Deliverable 1: Structured information content

The structured information will cover the policy relevant public health issues and the policies that address these, within and across EU Member States. This information will provide content for the web application. It will be presented in a structured way through texts, tables, graphs and maps. The information will be based on existing data and publications, and made accessible via predetermined routes and search modalities.

Deliverable 2: Functioning prototype of a web application

This includes (1) a content management system for filling, updating and expanding the EUPHIX system; (2) an underlying database for EU health indicators, health data, meta-data, reports and other types of publications; (3) a network of data sources; and (4) protocols for selecting, acquiring and processing data.

Deliverable 3: A plan for maintaining the system, using expert networks

This refers to a plan for building expert networks that will contribute information and expertise to the EUPHIX system, and provide feedback on its content and user-friendliness. The deliverable includes identifying meritable national and EU-level experts, institutions, networks, projects and stakeholder organisations, as well as provision of sustainable procedures of obtaining and regularly updating the content.
